Finding Your Style — Build a Visual Brand That Feels Like You

You’ve dipped your toes into design, played with some tools, and maybe even made your first cute graphic (go mama!). Now, let’s talk about creating your look. The kind of visual style that people recognize and say, “Oh, that’s totally her vibe.”

Good news? You don’t need to be a branding expert. You just need a little intention and a lot of “what feels right to me?”

First — What Even Is a Visual Brand?

It’s the look and feel of everything you create. It helps people instantly recognize you. Think of it like your design wardrobe—colors, fonts, shapes, and style that all go together.

Your visual brand might show up in:

  • Instagram posts

  • Etsy shop banners

  • Printable planners

  • Pinterest pins

  • Client presentations

  • Or even your email signature

It doesn’t have to be fancy. It just has to be you.

Step 1: Define Your Vibe

Let’s start with the mood. Are you:

  • Minimal + clean (think lots of white space and soft neutrals)

  • Warm + cozy (muted earth tones, hand-drawn illustrations)

  • Fun + playful (bold colors, quirky fonts, cute icons)

  • Elegant + modern (deep colors, sleek fonts, chic lines)

Choose 3–5 words that describe your dream vibe. Mine might be: cozy, creative, thoughtful, soft, joyful.

Use those words as your compass.

Step 2: Pick Your Brand Colors 🎨

Color is everything. It sets the mood before you say a single word.

Tips:

  • Choose 3–5 colors: 1–2 main colors, 1 accent, and 1 neutral

  • Use tools like coolors.co or Canva’s color palette generator

  • Save your color hex codes so you can reuse them easily

Example combo:

  • Blush pink (#f8dada)

  • Terracotta (#e88f6c)

  • Sage green (#a9b7a0)

  • Cream (#fdfaf6)

This palette gives warm, calm, mom-creative vibes.

Step 3: Choose Your Fonts ✍️

Fonts say a lot. Are you soft and friendly? Bold and confident? Classic and refined?

Font combo cheat sheet:

  • Headline font: Something with personality (serif or script)

  • Body font: Something simple and readable (sans serif)

Keep it to 2–3 fonts total to avoid visual chaos. You can find free fonts in Canva, Adobe Express, or Google Fonts.

Step 4: Choose Your Visual Elements

Do you want to use:

  • Hand-drawn doodles?

  • Clean geometric shapes?

  • Photos of your real life?

  • Watercolor textures?

  • Icons and illustrations?

These details add consistency and charm. Reuse the same elements across your posts or printables to create cohesion.

Step 5: Build a Mini Brand Kit

Let’s keep it mom-simple. Your brand kit can live in a Canva folder, a Pinterest board, or even a Google Doc.

Include:

  • Your 3–5 brand colors (with hex codes)

  • Your 2–3 fonts (with links or Canva names)

  • 3–5 sample designs that match your style

  • Keywords that describe your vibe

This tiny brand kit becomes your north star. Every time you start a new design, peek at it. It helps you stay consistent without having to overthink every time.

Step 6: Practice in Real Life

Here’s a fun challenge:

  1. Create a branded Instagram post using your colors + fonts.

  2. Design a mini business card or thank-you note using your visual identity.

  3. Make a desktop wallpaper for yourself that says “Creative Mom Energy” in your style.

You’re not just designing—you’re showing up as your own brand. And that, mama, is powerful.
